Picture a Day-Day 56

Only one food causes my heart to skip a beat every time I think of getting my little masticating jaws around it. One favorite that captures my attention every time I open the fridge.

It's Cheese!

I have been known to wake up in a cold sweat thinking about the last time I had a 10 year aged piece of sharp chedder (I love the cheeses that bite you back, especially blue). "Processed" is a four letter word for me when it comes to cheese.

While I'd probably always take all the chedder given an option, I do enjoy other semi soft cheeses as well (the only cheese I cannot stand is Swiss, it just tastes nasty to me). My Husband introduced me to these little wonders when we were courting. Babybel is a bit like mozzarella with a bit more bite. But the best part of the single serving semi soft cheese is the wax it comes in.

You can squish it in your fingers to mold it into whatever shape you want or put it up to your nose to breath in the heavenly scent.Mmm cheese!

Even my hubby will put up with me long enough to put on a cheesy wax clown nose.
Does anyone else have a small love affair with a specific food? Or are there any other cheese maniacs that were tempted by my little diatribe?
Man, I wish I had some right now in fact.

mmmmm... I love babybel! I think we actually bought some this week, but I forgot about it so it's probably already gone.

I'm also a huge cheese fan, but I'm not a huge fan of moldy cheese (even if it is on purpose.) I like brie and camabert, but that's about the extend of my moldy-ness. I really like sharp cheddar with apples or on toast with my mum's marmalade. Man, I'm making myself hungry.

Nice noses!

Do you have any idea how great those things are as part of a picnic lunch?

Or melted ever so slightly on leftover sausage and biscuits?

Gosh. I'm jonesin' for some babybel.

Have you ever had Paranno? Seriously you have to try it. It's a combination of parmesan and gouda. We survived on it on our honeymoon.

Holy crap. I thought you were the only cheese nut in the world. Why do you think that was my idea (although your mom went nuts with other stuff) for your wedding shower?

I love mini babybells. I don't buy them often cause I will eat them all quickly.
You guys are too funny!

Love the babybels. Love brie. LOVE all the bite-you-back cheeses, too, like blue and gorgonzola. Love the softness and tang of goat cheese. LOVE muenster and havarti, YUM YUM YUM! And my new thing is buying big hunks of parmesan or parmesano-reggiano, just like Giada uses, because Mark Bittman said in his blog that they'll keep forever and you can scrape off the mold if it molds (I think because it's a hard cheese it's OK to do this). I never wanted to splurge on those hunks of real parmesan before because I figured I wouldn't be able to use it in time and it would be a waste of money. But guess what -- with a hunk of parmesan in the fridge (tightly wrapped), you find tons of ways of using it! And I agree -- I also hate Swiss.

Cheese is delicious, and Babybel is fantastic. I totally agree about the wax - it's half the reason for getting Babybel, if you ask me.

Regular swiss is gross but melted swiss is pretty good [Ruebens anyone?]

I am so NOT a cheese person (although it does make a cute clown nose - both you and your hubby are adorable)! Now give me cucumbers and pickles and I am happy all day long!!

Oh, cheese, how I love thee so.

Ok, I'm too hungry to write any more about cheese, I must go eat!
