A Lab Created Gem

Hurray it's now our two month anniversary and aside from some really evil weather so far so good (Any bets on if I'll remember anymore here on out? Cause I'd lean towards no.)

Yesterday I had some time to kill in lab watching my stuff run out so I thought it'd be fun to do a little ring shoot where I work. So without further ado, here are the good pictures I got.

This would be a 1.5 mL tube, the cornerstone of any molecular lab. They also make a rather loud crunching noise when you step on them. My ring mixed in with a bunch of tips, you can also see a pipetteman in the background.
I got a bit crafty with the pipetteman, putting the amount for 18 (or the 18th).

A Box of Kim wipes are traditionally used for cleaning off microscope slides but in reality they are like the Kleenex of the lab world. They are used for everything and you only really notice how important they are when they're gone.
On top of an electrophoresis gel rig. I promise I'll explain it better later today (the other reason I had a camera in the lab).
In the middle of a centrifuge. Too bad I forgot the balance.
On top of a typical pyrex bottle, using some autoclave tape to keep it up.
I love the way this last one turned out, with it in a bit of ethanol in a beaker.

"He went to Jared . . .

That cheap cheap asshole"

I love these Target:Women Sarah Haskins bits. I've followed her through the cleaning, cooking, birth control, and disney princess ones.

Offbeat Bride just recently featured her new Jewelry one (a sore spot for me as I break out into hives and begin plotting how to destroy that cursed Jared and his evil jingles as soon as an ad comes on) and I just had to share.

Snow day sure was a lot of fun, eh? Too bad we all have to get back to work. Well at least vacation is just around the road (which reminds me I have to get everything ready before we spend our week up in Chicago).

Last night we got another wonderful surprise (okay so thanks to tracking numbers it really isn't a surprise at all). My hubby had a small package that was left at the neighbors (a slightly terrifying thought on its own in our apartment complex full of college students we never see) he'd been waiting for since Cyber Monday.

He was so happy he plopped down on the floor to open it up and rifle through. That's my husband. He always has to read any and all materials that come with anything be it a centrifuge, a board game, or a deck of cards. I'm more of a plug it in and mess around until it starts smoking, then read the manual type.
Our place is just full of wires. I hope we never have a small mouse sneak in to chew them up, or worse try pirating our internet. Is that not just the cutest little laptop you've ever seen? Makes you want to pinch its cheeks and cover it in super frilly clothes. Or maybe that's just me.

After spending about 20 minutes on the floor messing with it he finally moved it to his desk and then spent about 5 hours playing with it.

Now in our place we have one computer that run Windows, one that runs Mac (mine, and I was using it long before it was cool), and a little lap top that runs on Linux. Anyone else have a few different computers or Operating Systems? Did you have to marry into a new OS?

Any laptop owners got some suggestions for someone just starting out?

It was also very funny to watch my hubby load up that tiny little thing into his huge bookbag. I offered him a little red bag I had that it would fit in perfectly but apparently he just couldn't put his hyper masculine laptop into a purse. Boys.

SNOW DAY!

The Snow day is quickly becoming a smash success.

Rachel has joined in the fray with a weather forecast.

This lead to Linda sparking one hell of a snowball fight, look out Darci!
Broke ass Bride has challenged me to an ice skating contest but um let's just say I lost horribly (PS my name's not Sylvia though I suppose it could be for the day)
Meanwhile Amy Jean and Valerie are sitting it out in the lodge enjoying some hot cocoa.
We seem to be missing Bean and Lindsey and oh no there they are, hanging out in the hot tub.Anyone else want to join in on the madness?

Edited to add: Looks like Bridechka is joining in with her own snowangel while Ashely watches with her first hot toddy.

Krista is even showing off her sledding skills.

Picture a Day- Day 14

I had a wonderful post all planned for today complete with some gorgeous pictures about how I do my best to stay warm when we've reached absolute zero and all molecules are about to stop moving causing complete organ failure to retain water. Oay I have no idea but I imagine it'd look really cool.

Instead we woke up to this:

Hurray the first real snow of the season, so that means we all get a day off from work and school right?

Right?

What do you mean it isn't that bad out? And it's finals week? Well too bad for them, they can just retake it over the break.

Fine. Fine. Give us about two hours to dig out the car and another three to safely navigate traffic. We'll be to work by 2PM at the earliest.

Since we can't have a snow day in the real world, I'm declaring one in the blog-o-sphere land.

SNOW DAY! That means no work; just bundling up to head out in the virgin snow to sled, build, play and just generally freeze your extremities off til your Mom comes out with a cup of hot chocolate.

Who's joining me for some sledding off Practical Weddings hill? Then maybe have some hot drinks at the Broke-Ass Brides cocoa stand. And when no one is looking we could sneak over and knock down all of The Knot girls snowmen. He he he.
