Ceremony music with a twist

I am beginning to realize that most of the posts this week are going to be devoted to all those little surprises from the wedding. I first had the bouquet toss fight (which was somewhat thought of in advance) and today I have something I am overjoyed to share.

As some of you may remember, I decided that rather than scouring over music and picking what my very talented organist should play I'd just let him choose. After all he's been doing weddings since he could reach the pedals, he'd know exactly what would be different and fit us.

But instead of him picking a unique song not played often he did something completely unexpected, he combined a few surprising songs.

I was so shocked at the rehearsal I realized that I had to have them filmed. So the day of was quickly followed by me begging a camera off my dad and then subsequently finding someone to hold it.

And rather than telling you all about it, I thought I'd let you hear and see. Also I'm not gonna say exactly what he played but you can all take your guesses in the comments.

Here's the "Here comes the Bride" ala my organist:

He'd been threatening to have me walk down the aisle so much that I wasn't expecting it, so as you can see about the time I figured it out I broke out into laughter.

In fact, it was too perfect for me as I was too busy listening to the music to realize that all the people in the church were looking at just me. Instead of looking scared and serious I was giggling down the aisle and I wouldn't have it any other way.

He also picked something just right for the Unity candle. Once I realized what it was, I started to well up a bit:

So Mr. Church organist, if you happen to be reading this for some reason (like your new wife is making you) thank you so much for making the wedding. The music was perfect for us and our twisted wedding.

I really can't praise enough how easy and fun it was to trust a professional who knew me to make a decision for the wedding. Delegation can be lots of fun.

Sing, sing a song

One of the great things about having connections with people is how easy it's made the wedding planning process.

I also know where they all live so they can't screw me over as easily (there's got to be a lot more thought and subterfuge thrown in and it's so much work why bother). Along with me having pizza with my wedding coordinator and a pretty laid back time to planning, my Matron of Honor can hook me up with some DJ equipment.

So after visiting her for the wonderful wedding learning experience she handed me a sheet for all the dances we should come up with for the reception.

Here in Youtube form are our choices for some and big ol' blanks for others.

Our Newlyweds Arrival song. We may as well get it out of the way early.

We're still a bit torn on the first dance. I was thinking something ala the ol' crooners would be fun to dance to and we wouldn't just look like we're in junior high. So after some convincing I think we might go with this.

All (but one) of our wedding party members is in a serious relationship, engaged, or married. So we were thinking for the bridal party dance we'd want something fast and fun and not awkward.

My fiance has been pushing for one song he does want to dance to, and so this is sort of our lead in to everyone dancing with their SO's.

The cake cutting song (though I don't know why it needs one):

The bouquet toss song:

And because I am a big band nut this had to be the last song (though ours will be Glenn Miller):

We still have a few more to go, and if anyone has any good suggestions for a Mother/Son dance please tell me. I have no idea at all.

EDITED to ADD: We have picked a mother/son and father/daughter dance. It's really simple and not very long

I don't care

I realize that as a bride I am expected to micromanage every tiny little detail of this crazy turbulent roller coaster ride known as a wedding. But when meeting with our "Music coordinator player" (better known as my flower girls brother) all we told him was that we wanted Vivaldi's Autumn played at some point as we're getting married in October. (Get it, autumn--fall, ha ha ha)

Otherwise I don't give a flip what the bridal party walks down the aisle to, what I'm supposed to, what plays while we light a candle on fire, and what everyone listens to while the monkey brings around beverages.

My fiancee and I just never really cared one way or the other what music is playing (of course he's Catholic so the idea of music before church is so foreign to him he almost breaks out in hives) so we put our trust in our friend who we knew could come up with something different and also something he can play exceptionally well.

There's talk that I'll either be walking down the aisle to the Darth Vader theme or the Darth Maul one. Honestly I didn't even know he had one. Either way, it'll make for a very interesting day of surprises.

And I can just imagine the time I managed to stave off my death thanks to me not obsessing about what music should play to tell the guests that we're now switching from seating to standing. Ah the joys of outsourcing.
