Something, something, something, something BLUE!

I haven't gotten very far in the old poem (I especially have no idea how I'd go about shoving six pints into my shoe) but if there is one thing we'll have covered during our wedding it's the something blue (so I think that means we'll live in a shack by the ocean or I may have played that MASH game wrong).

I thought I might be able to inspire some other brides about their something blue if I share all my pictures and ideas.

Let's see, starting at the easiest blue is the jewelry (I don't have any earrings due to a serious aversion my body has to new holes). I made myself a pretty simple blue necklace using that jewelry haven etsy.com Here are just a few other options that won't have you eating ramen for a month (there's enough wedding stuff that will do that.) If there's one time you can pull off a large amount of blue in a necklace or bracelet it's your wedding.

I also have a navy garter that I got through one of the numerous wedding favor outlets (I think the one I got it through got rid of it). It's really easy to find the powder blue garters but if you're like me and like your blue to have a bit more bite there are a few other option than just baby blue.

Here's another navy one from Target, but if that isn't really your style you can always make your own with whatever shade of blue you like best.

The garter route is probably best for those brides that don't like blue but want to honor the poem, though I will never really understand you as blue is the most awesome color ever!

Along the jewelry route I have been making and wearing anklets for quite a while. It's just something simple I do with knots but I like the feel of having something to do that I can wear and most people won't really see.

For the wedding I made something a bit special by using the shiny silver floss to knot into my more usual blue and green. It's something for a bride who wants to keep the blue more hidden but isn't in the mood for a garter.

Keeping near the toes there are a few options. The first one is to fancy out your feet.
I have a sapphire blue nail polish that I love using on my toes every chance I get. I actually got it for $2 from Wal-Mart and it doesn't really chip that much or is hard to put on.

But if you want to go the nicer route OPI has a really gorgeous blue or a deeper sapphire for your tootsies.

I really loved all the pictures of brides with bright vibrant shoes.

But alas there is no way I can pull off or even stay up in a heel. Plus I'd already found those really nice sandals that don't have the killer middle toe thing and are actually comfy.

So out comes my paints. We already knew from some other projects that these are generally water proof. After using a very simple paper towel swipe method to create a less uniform paint job I covered it over with my clear nail polish to keep it secure.

The final and last bit of blue I have (aside from my engagement ring) is a slip of blue from my fiance's grandmothers dress. It's something to tie the families together more so I think I'll tie it around the little brooch on my dress (I swear that isn't a pun, okay maybe just a bit).

Hopefully someone got some inspiration from all this blue, and if there's anything you think I missed feel free to share.

I'm a watchaholic

You want to know the easiest way to drive me crazy? Lock me in a room so that I'll be late to something. It could be something simple, something you can show up late to and I'll still be climbing the walls, clawing off the wallpaper, and chewing my own leg off (assuming you have to use a coyote trap as well).

The second way is to just take away my watch. I have been wearing a watch since I was in the 7th grade. It's become habit for me to always know what time it is as I just have to look down at my wrist (I am one of those weirdos who doesn't carry my cellphone, or a purse for that matter).
I am proud of my watch tanline

So due to my habit I always wear an Ironman Timex (It takes a licking and keeps on ticking, even if you take it swimming in a pool or smash it onto a shelf). But, alas, my usual watch just isn't dressy enough for the wedding (or as my fiance's side says wearing a watch is Bohemian. I have no idea what that means as all I associate that word with are the bug eyed Olsen Twins, but I'm guessing it isn't a good thing).

Thus begins my hunt for a fancy dress up type watch that isn't too expensive (I suppose I could always get a pocket watch and then give it to a groomsman later but that won't hide my tan line).
The top watch to the left is priciest of the three
this watch can bring together any gold and silver accessories you have.

For the more traditional pearls and lace bride
this watch to the right can be a nice substitute for a bracelet.

Found from my favorite place for jewelry (etsy.com)
I love the simpleness of the blue used for this watch.
And easy way to have your "something blue" if
you aren't as crazy about it was me.

I have no idea what watch I'll wind up getting, but I'm glad to see that there are some options for brides. Even if it makes me "bohemian" to want to start my wedding on time and not have to hunt down a clock to make sure. (Here's hoping I don't automatically check it while during the ceremony).

I know I'm already weird for wearing my glasses (though I am going to keep my hair long, for a short hair bride check out She Weds) adding on the watch and the fact that I'm not really wearing a bridal gown and I may be in the running for weirdest bride of the year.

I like shiny stuff

I am not an accessory kind of person. I like to joke with my guy how for a long time he wore more jewelry than me (him: watch, school ring; me: watch). While my engagement ring has tipped the scales it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. But come wedding talk and everyone seems to think I should be decorating myself up all fancy.

Earrings won't happen. I'd had my ears pierced twice in my lifetime and both times they closed up. I have since learned my body does not like holes in it, or I have a healing factor to rival deadpool. And clip ons have always been insanely painful to me. Really, who wants to spend hours getting pinched in their ears? It feels like I did something wrong but I can't figure out what.

So really my only option was a necklace. My mother was dead set on how I had to find something blue to match my ring, so began a long look for a blue brooch (at the time she wanted to replace one that was on my dress). After some hunting and pecking I was directed to etsy.com and found the quite pretty cobalt blue glass piece pictured above (the silver chain I got from Target as everyone I know likes to use gold).

If you're like me and like to add a bit of color for your accessories then it seems DIY is a better approach than just purchasing a bridal set. Some have color but not as much (what is it with all the white, people?) There are a few sites out there to help in deciding what kind of bling you'd like to accentuate your perfect scrumdidilyumptios day. For the more traditional out there, there are the classic pearls. Apparently they can be traced back to those trendsetter english queens again.

If you can't tell by now, I know nothing about jewelry and I never will. This is mostly just me marking time. So I wish you all luck in figuring out your shiny stuff. Later I'll talk about something I understand even less: purses, tiaras, and gloves. Look forward to lots of ums and ahings.
