Name Changes are for the birds

I've been a really good newlywed so far: we got all the presents put away within a weekend of getting back from the honeymoon, wrote the thank you notes while driving to the honeymoon, and have not had a lick of any of that supposed post wedding blues.

But there is one thing that I have just been putting off like the plague, changing my name.
It took me a good three weeks to even get around to mailing in the form, only to have it come back as I forgot to sign it. Well I signed it and sent it in and am still waiting on those wonderfully speedy government officials. Do de do.

I kinda view the Soc card as the first official step and that there's really no reason to go to every single little web thing I'm a member of to change my surname until I get in that card (or maybe I'll wait til I get the drivers license, yeah that seems more official what with a picture and all).

If you can't tell by all the excuses, I really don't want to do this. It isn't that I was forced to change my last name, or I'm really attached or anything like that. I just don't want to do all the work.

I was never one of those lovesick teenagers that would write Mrs. (insert last name of current crush here) all over their notebooks. Okay so I also didn't think I'd ever get married but that's beside the point. I also still have no idea how to sign my last name (this just goes to show you, learn all capital letters in cursive, you never know what you could wind up with).

However, it feels like I'm the only weird one out there. Most brides seem to be exstactic to have the chance to change their say facebook name (the only thing I have changed so far), while I'm about the furthest thing from excited you can get (like sloth territory here).
Is anyone else out there like me, you have no qualms with changing your last name you just don't want to have to do all the work associated with it?

Changing my name was a pain in the ass. And I still haven't got my new soc card.

I don't want to and I'm not going to. Maybe the fact that you forgot to sign it means something...

I changed my name and work on facebook immediately. I did my SS and driver's license a week or two later. But there are places I still haven't changed my name-a credit card, the library, my shopper's reward cards. I kind of lost momentum.

I don't have a problem with changing my name, I guess I have just always assumed it would happen someday so I am at peace with it when the time comes. However I am not looking forward tot he process of it, I can imagine it's a pain!! Good luck with it!

I am so with you, sistah!
I just got our marriage license back yesterday, so now it begins....
Go to the Soc.Sec. office to get a new card, then on to the driver's license office, then to the bank, then I get to call all the credit card companies, oh, and the mortgage company too.... I am totally in sloth territory with you.
Chris really really really wants me to change my name. I'm kind of happy with the one I have, but since it means a lot to him.... Ugh. But it's just going to be a pain in the assssssssss.

Oh, and yeah, it's totally awkward to sign the last name. It looks like I signed my first name, and somebody else signed my last name.

I think how fast and how motivated you are to change your name is affected by how much you HATE your old last name.
In my case- I can't change my name fast enough!

Me too! I'm fine with changing my name, it just seems like such a mission. And our home affairs departments are beyond useless, so I forsee a fun time. Actually, I don't even know where to begin! A new ID book, I guess.

I'm kinda late chiming in on this post, but yeah. Not changing my last name. It's not that I hate my husband's last name, it's just that I am TOO DARN LAZY to change it. That's seriously the real reason.

Maybe some day I'll change it. But judging by my lazy attitude toward everything, I'll always be a Jones, never a Ray. The Husband doesn't care either way, which makes me happy.
